ABOUT THE ARTIST
Each piece of Terrell René Theen's artwork flows purely from his imagination. He prides himself on the ability to see what doesn't exist and bring it together in interesting and exciting ways to tell a visual story. His masterful use of color, composition and dramatic lighting combine to complete the vision that lures his audience into each work.
When asked about his mission as an artist, he replied, "I strive to give my audience an emotional experience as they view my work. I want them to be able to imagine themselves in each scene, feeling the atmosphere on their skin, and the sounds and textures that bring each scene to life. People have walked into my exhibits overcome with emotion. That always brings a smile to my face and lets me know that I have done my job."
Each piece begins with a pencil drawing, along with an exhausting amount of research used to define the theme, story, composition, flow, balance and lighting. He then uses a combination of 3D and 2D digital painting and modeling techniques to complete his scenes with immense detail.
As a child, Terrell lived in Germany for a while and traveled extensively throughout Europe with his family. It was this experience that continues to inspire most of his visions and artwork. One of his earliest and most influential experiences came when he was only 7 years old, while walking through the Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria, Germany. This fairytale castle with its breathtaking interiors, was permanently etched into his mind, and can be seen as a major inspiration in much of his artwork. It was one of the key motivations for his early pursuit of a career in architecture and interior design.
With extensive experience in theatrical lighting design, as well as interior design with major architectural firms, his talent took him to Walt Disney World where he grew in his understanding of staging, lighting and theatrical design, both as a cast member and as a digital artist.
In addition to his career as an artist, Terrell lectures on digital art at the University of Central Florida in the Games and Interactive Media department in Orlando with a passion to teach and inspire many future digital artists.
